Mester Juhász Zoltán

The workshop and the showroom

The showroom at master instrument maker Zoltán Juhász’s workshop was completed in 2012. The aim was for musicians to have an aesthetically and acoustically worthy setting to try out the instruments.

With its small podium and central area, which can be filled with seats quickly when needed, it is capable of hosting small-scale concerts. The building is an excellent venue for master classes, with separate rooms for more personalised music teaching.

Repair and restoration

Alongside horn making, the workshop still repairs and restores: trumpets, trombones, tubas and historical instruments alike. Customers come from across Europe, and two or three new ones make contact every week.

Asked in 2020 whether the horns meant giving up repair work, he answered:

Out of the question. Even when my horns began to become known, we went on repairing trumpets, trombones and tubas too.

… With this “portfolio expansion” we actually span 300 years: we have made it possible to re-create the instruments of the 1700s – used in smaller spaces, among fewer instruments – so that the sound matches the tonal ideal of that time, yet is also able to speak optimally under 21st-century performing conditions.
